If only...

Now here is your chance to let that police officer know just what you wish! If only...you wouldn't say you were just going to ask for lunch.......If only.......you would tell me where you were in case you started chasing someone....If only ........you wouldn't restart your timer for lunch.....
Now add your own, remember, no names and please be nice.

If only you would ask for lunch when I call you, instead of answering with your beat number...then letting me read out the entire job before saying "squad, but i was just sitting down for lunch"

If only the dispatchers would speak clearly, if only the dispatchers would pay attention to the police officer's transmissions instead of goofing around (do you think we don't hear your conversations when the mic gets keyed?) and grab assing and missing what might be that officers last transmission before he gets his butt kicked or worst....

Having been the police under a police officer run dispatch system aided by civilians and the current system- most police officer dispatchers 'get' what's happening on the street, only a handful of current civilian dispatchers understand or care- it seems for a certain percentage, dispatching is just a job- in fact- you are our life line and the life line of every citizen in Chicago. Too bad many of you don't understand that or don't care.

Kudos to the few civilian dispatchers who get it- we are deeply indebted to you. To those who don't care-find another job.

To Joe, Deb, Bill and Kim on zone 11-you get it and we appreciate it. Thanks for the great job!

Figures zone 11. 024 is and has been one of the two or three biggest bunch of whiners in the city from the start. Comparable only to the old 003 and 022 always in the amount of nonsense they put on dispatchers.

If its from someone from 020, my apologies to 024. 020 usually took care of business without whining or stupidity.

And yeah, we understand most real police didn't start off in 024 and they had to work the ghetto at some point. Don't know how so many similarly-minded people ended up in 024, but they did.

For some reason, other retirement districts like 016, 001, 019, 013 don't seem to make people listen to so much nonsense.

"Squad, can you run these 7 names for me? I'm sure all this chatter won't cut off someone who actually needs help".

Next month have a post on what police think about dispatchers. And the month after we both can jump on the call takers.

how about a post that isn't intended to bait more animosity between the people at the 911 center and the officers on the street?
c'mon blogmaster..can't you do better than this?

I've worked on zone 10 and zone 11 and I must say that all regular dispatchers on those zones know what's up and how to run things. You have to excuse us police when we ask for info ten times because we can't playback the tapes like you guys can and the city does not see fit to give us all computers. That being said, yes there are asshats out there who think they are god's gift to policing and will act like the assholes when they are on the air. However, you guys certainly have your bad apples. I know my pet peeve are the dispatchers who couldn't put a coherent sentence together if you paid them. We both have our bad apples and instead of blaming one another let's blame the spineless supervisors who don't do anything to correct the problems we each face on a daily basis.
