plain and simple, get off our backs, let us do our job and for once management, be on our side!

i agree, get off our back. though shasta might need you to wake her up when she's sleeping so she can get her lunch break. give us days off when we want. hire more people so we aren't doing the jobs of 3 (at the expense of the Chicago taxpayers in overtime). Since when is it cheaper to pay someone 40 hours of overtime a week than just hiring a second person? The public should be outraged.

C'mon .....no brainer.... paying overtime is cheaper for the city than a new hire..they don't have to pay all those benefits plus the salary!

4:32, just to add to your point... the city also doesn't have to have you come in even when they don't need you. If overtime was mandated 24/7 for 6 months straight, it would clearly indicate a shortage. But if only on Friday and Saturday nights, just as an example, than its the city using its head. No paying anybody Sunday thru Thursday. So say 7 people for 2 nights at 1.5 (total = 21) or 9.8* people for 5 nights at 1 (total = 49).

*9.8 used to account for the fact that at LEAST 2 of 7 should be off if distributed evenly, and 5/7 times 9.8 gets you the same 7 bodies on Friday and Saturday). This does not even take into account medical, furlough, discipline days etc.

Pretty clear that overtime can be an efficient use of resources, though it certainly is not if its being constantly required 24/7.
