A new test???????

Anyone have any information on a new "dispatcher test" coming out in the near future? Anyone have any information on more dispatchers/calltakers to be hired?

Well there is nothing on the cities website. So maybe they still have a few more names on the last list to go through.

Testing will be done by Ernest & Young LLP and be held at Richard J Daley College on May 30th and June 2nd. This is for those who applied when the position was open last January - March. I don't know if they will have others there from previous lists.

supposedly the city sent out 1400 invitations to the test... 700 on each test day... i'll guess less than 200 show up

Last year they had over 500 at the academy - if memory serves right, only 40-ish made it through the initial testing for dispatcher. If only 200 show up, it will be interesting to see how many get through.

I am taking the test on May 30th. I had originally applied in March of 2006. I was just curious about the process I have to face once I take the test and how long does it generally take. Any advice would also be appreciated. Thanks

You'll take a written test on the 30th. Pretty easy if you stay calm, read the information clearly and follow the directions. After that, they will schedule you for a typing test - you have to type at least 25 wpm. Again - easy if you stay calm, type normal, and fix any mistakes you make. There is a simulation which will test your ability to listen and do the job. They don't expect you to know how - they are just going to rate you on your attempt. Again, if you stay calm and do your best, you should be fine. There is an interview which is usually with 3 people. During the interview there will be a series of tests - one verbal - you just have to read verbatim from a script in response to them. There is a listening test - you will listen to a tape and then take a quiz to see what you recall. There is a mapping quiz - to see how well you can find locations.

If you are coming off the street, there is a whole series of tests that you may have to go through to pass for call taker - a written test, listening test, simulation, etc. I don't know exactly how they will do it - or even if it is the same as what I experienced. It may have changed - there has been a lot of changes at the OEMC since I last took the test. But the main thing is to come rested, relax, pay attention, and do your best. If it is meant to be - you'll get it. If not, there is something else for you, and maybe next time!

    9:13 PM,

1400 invited. 700 total showed. 100 passed and will take the next step. Letters have gone out to the successful.

Applications for the next test to be accepted soon on the city's personnel department website.
