Police matter?

Does anyone remember the days when we were able to tell a citizen police don't respond because your son won't go to school? Does anyone remember when we were able to tell a citizen we don't go out for the rotten meat they purchased? Does anyone remember when we were able to tell a citizen we don't go out for children running on grass or shooting hoops in the alley? Boy, times have sure changed!

    With the call volume going up higher and higher, something needs to be done, with all the ridiculous calls we get. Because a rap isn't going to save a dispatcher or calltaker, if someonegets killed and there are no police available to respond because they are out looking for squirrels!

    Have you ever been to a CAPS meeting and I dont mean the ones at a bar? These CAPS people and Commanders tell people attending CAPS meetings to call 911 regardless of the cituation becuase that is what we are there for. They also tell by generating more calls for service the city might hire more p.o.'s. Shit the only thing the 5th flr midget will do is buy more cameras.
    Shit I know you guys hate taking and dispatching these non-police emergency calls but we have to actually meet these idiots and try to solve their problems.

    ummmm...I think the "5th floor midget" to whom the previous poster was referring is Mayor Daley on the 5th floor of city hall.

    I also believe the poster is a P.O., not one of us at 1411 Madison.

    True, our building does technically have 5 floors. Kinda. But 01:50 wasn't referring to our building. He meant city hall, where the "5th flr midget" has HIS office.

    The ridiculous calls we get at 911 are the same ones that were handled at 1121. The practice has been going since O.W. Wilson. The old policy "call 911 for anything and the police will be sent" was instituted by Wilson in the early 1960's and in 2008 no one has the guts to do like many other 911 centers in the country do, that is to tell the citizen calling 911, if it is not an emergency the call it is immediately disconnected after the citizen is told not to use the emergency line to report such things as barking dogs or kids playing basketball in the alley. Until that happens folks we will continue to answer such ridiculous calls for service.

    I guess you won't get too many posts on this subject because the majority of pc01's and pc02's don't know what is a police matter and what is not.

    Off Topic: Great job by Zone 5 handling the semi-into-the-L job. Often those on the street take for granted the fact that some of you guys are the best in the business ANYWHERE. Today just reminded me once again.
