Summer halfway done

Well, it's over, another 4th of July survived at the OEMC. Any stories that you would like to share? Anyone think cancelling rdo's was a waste of money? Anyone think we still didn't have enough help? Please share...

Hey, why is it the new ED seems to be spending way more time across the parking lot at the ISCN garage instead of in our building? Catching up with old buddies perhaps? Seems like there would be plenty here to keep him busy.

What's up with the article in the Sun Times today where the lady is complaining she called 911 about illegal fireworks and the call taker was laughing so hard she couldn't understand what she was saying, the call taker told her to call back and then hung up on her? She did call back but no police ever came? Sound familiar to anyone?

Fireworks on the 4th? Those calls are wholesaled by the dozen.

I don't feel good 'bout how the woman was treated, as she was one of the good ones who properly called 3-1-1 in the first place, and it was the 3-1-1 calltaker who transferred her to 9-1-1 rather than just take the information.

But really, thats what the world has become thanks to O.W. Wilson. So many calls that we'd have to deputize half the city to respond to the complaints in order to fully respond to the complaints of the other half.

And poor citizens like this who fear somebody is about to start their house on fire? Victims of the culture wars and big government.

I bet the suburbs handled that call. Majority of us don't refer to sending the police has sending a
"patrol car" nor do we request that people call us back. We are so busy and such a regular basis and on fourth of July especially, I can't see someone having the time to have this fit of laugher while not on " busy ". We really are professionals believe it or not, trained to take 20 calls in 5 minutes in a row of kids telling you to suck it and the occasional airplane falling from the sky thrown in.
On the lady's behalf it's too bad, sorry for her treatment where ever she received it from. Sorry for her fears for we all know there is no where she can go short of Europe to get away from the fireworks.

It was us. They found the call yesterday. Can't figure out how there was time for laughing either on 04 July as busy as we were.

It's about to hit the fan again over a fight in progress that didn't get dispatched for over 25 minutes

on behalf of the dispatchers involved in that z6 chaos........they do an awesome job and can't be expected to never make a mistake. after all we are only human and people make mistakes, unfortunately our mistakes may result in someone being injured or worse yet dead. i hope they take the business of that zone into consideration when giving out the punishment. and by the way i believe if there is no policy on raps at shift change, then they should say that they carry over for at least the 1st hour of the new watch, as i think they should. it's hard to get one in when you are sitting down to chaos.......we all know the phrase "all units stand by for the shift change" means nothing to the police on the radio.

There is only one person to blame for what happened at Durkin Park. He is the one who is taking money from department budgets so the city can attempt to win a bid to hold the Olympics in Chicago. The one who takes money from budgets to pay for the Millenium Park cost over runs, who takes money from budgets to pay for tearing up Meigs Field, the one who takes from budgets to pay for expansion at Ohare Airport when there is a down turn in air travel due to expense costs of terrorists attacks. All this so he can set his friends up with contracts so there will be plenty of extra cash for them to donate back to the democratic party to keep himself in office and look good on the national scale as a mover and a maker like his daddy. Unfortunately he will never be like his dad. His dad rewarded the city worker with safe neighborhoods, Fire and EMS services, clean parks, clean streets and alleys, and helped elect JFK who believed in cutting taxes, sending a man to the moon and securing our borders from Russia. No, chip off the old block has pretty much destroyed all the stable communities with lack of services, increased crime, and over taxation.
His failure to hire more people who are first responders, the Firemen and Policemen and Paramedics, and yes also the call takers who are pressured to answer as many calls as possible, to not stay on the line too long pressuring you to complete the call and send the event as quickly as possible so you can get muther fucked by some punk. His failure to hire more dispatchers to ease the stress of having 45 ASSAULT IN PROGRESS jobs jump at you in a matter is seconds, to be able to read the information, add that info to the original call, and do that in the blink of an eye all while trying to simulcast the info while TRU is running 7 name checks and has a foot pursuit of their own on a different radio frequency.
Yes it is his failure to do his job and being responsible to the citizens of Chicago that has caused the incident at Durkin Park. Unfortunately, he will wash his hands of the matter. This should be a clarion call for the union to bargain for paid leave for stress related benefits like the police have. If one of us has a heart attack, do wew get a 75% disability pension? What about loss of vision or hearing?
I could go on and on about our terrible work conditons and the only person to blame is the person responsible for all the above.
