Can I get a day off?

Boy are we in for a long summer! The numbers keep growing for shooting victims. As we enter the Summer, it is a time for weddings, graduations, communions, vacations and much more. How does the average OEMC employee deal with family events and no time due??????

Well, if you claim you're having a panic attack, they will send you to RUSH to sit for the tour, but if shit in your pants, i'm sure they'll gladly send you home.

20 or 24 weeks i think is how long training is. OJT can be on any watch, but the class room stuff is during the day.

Good luck indeed. Hopefully they will hire you and many many more interested people VERY SOON! WE NEED HELP!!!!!!!

I really think that if we were fully staffed, the place wouldn't be such a depressing place to work. Sure, the management needs to change. But if we could get time due when we need it, we'd be a whole lot happier a crew. The answer is staffing, my friends.

    dear 04 May, 2008 13:11,

please get it straight. fully staffed and needing more people are two different things. according to city hall, we are fully staffed and, if you look at the budgeted numbers, they are telling the truth, however, needing more people is something we (the floor) maintain, and they (city hall) deny. the two subjects are as different as apples and oranges. they are not both apples and they are not both oranges.

and management needs to change? have you been asleep? they just launched the top guy! or do you mean, change, as in attitude?

either way, oemc management has nothing to do with staffing. believe it. city hall drives that behemoth. oemc management could tell them repeatedly that more people are needed on the floor, but if city hall does not listen, there is no solution. and if you think oemc can tell city hall what to do, you are really asleep.

our best asset in the battle of staffing is the TRR, and city hall has plenty of copies, so does JR, but city hall does not care. sadly, it will take a disaster for city hall to listen.

but just in case someone from city hall does read this blog, city hall, please, we need help, as in more people. the staffing allotment needs to be increased to efficiently run emergency communications, and it needs to be increased before this place goes under.

    dear 04 May 14:31:

Thanks so much for repeating EXACTLY what I said in MY post on 03 May 17:13...that WE NEED MORE PEOPLE.

That was exactly my point, and I said it in a whole lot fewer words than you did, you blow hole.

I never said OEMC management has ANYTHING to do with staffing. What I meant was that upper management needs to stop trying to micro-manage every aspect of the operations floor, when most of them that have been up in those positions in the last how many years know NOTHING about how the operations floor truly works (in other words, never sat on on console answering calls or dispatching the police). Our most recently launched executive director is a fine example. He did more to lower morale of the ops floor personnel greater than anyone I have seen previously for a very long time.

You must love to hear yourself talk, and insult other people in the process. Must make you feel good about yourself. Go fuck yourself.

    love, 03 May 17:13

hey goof! what post on 03 May 17:13? you were 04 May, 2008 13:11answering 03 May 17:13! are you drunk or wasted? which is it? i think the headset is pinching your head and cutting off the blood supply to your brain!

and how in the fuck do we interpret what you said versus what you didn't say versus what you meant? talking shit, like you, without facts or correct terms, is how you are defeated. they do not have to try and defeat you, you defeat yourself by talking stupid. they do not have to lift a finger. you hand it to them.

and, i was nice. i said please. i said please, get it straight. now, i will say please again. please, please, go fuck yourself, you ignorant moron.

no love, just contempt, for stupid fucks like you.

    sincerely, 04 May, 2008 14:31

to the poster that is going thru background checks for this shithole job - see what you have to deal with? the idiots that work here are the laziest, dirtiest, most useless crybabies on earth. PLEASE save yourself and get a different job before you sell your soul to the devil and take this crap job. you will spend however many weeks in pointless training, listening to "dispatchers" (term used loosely) READ to you from a sheet of paper. now thats learnin'!!!!! don't say i didn't warn you!!!!!!

why can't someone post on this thing without getting blasted for it. the original post to all this nonsense was just a quick heads up for the new people that might be coming in and welcoming any help we can get. but apparently someone thought it an open invitation to criticize every aspect of what was said. shoot leave your opinion and move on. whats to criticize, do you really have no life? im glad for any new hires because the place is not fully staffed or else if it was we would have plenty of people to cover for time due and furlos. but unfortunately it's not because when furlo segments start time due is out the door and god help us if more than 2 people hit the medical. so technichally its fully staffed but in reality it's not. thats my opinion and im sticking to it.

To you, 6 May, 21:20, if the job is so bad why are you still here? Do everyone a favor and either shut the hell up or go find another job where you sit on your ass and get paid very well to do it. You're more than likely one of those who can't work certain zones or has to have a special seat in the 90's. Yes, there are problems at OEMC and you appear to be one of them. Have a nice day.

i am the writer who is in the process of getting this job.....i see it is no worse than any other job a select few that hate on everything and complain instead of helping to make things better.....
im sure it is not that bad making 60 stacks!!!! if so, why not transfer out?

this would be a pay raise for me and I know what it is like to work the other side of the radio in a district...this should be fun and challenging!!!!!lol

so in spite of a few negative comments....WISH ME LUCK....

    Dear 08 May, 2008 22:21,

I do wish you luck, a lot of luck. Just remember, it really can be a good job and there are some very nice people working on the ops floor, gravitate towards them. Stay far away from the people you will find to be drunks, dopers, whiners, complainers, bitchers, male and female whores, nuts, psychos, crazies, whackos, refusers to follow the rules, and the all around disgruntled with their life. They all have their own groups. Beware, from day one they will try to drag you into their misery. Do not let them get you down. It will be what you make it, so make it good. After a short time you will probably figure this out, but if you ever get a chance to jump to the fire side, jump as fast as you can. Good luck.

    thank you :)

quick question, with all the training, will you become certified for the search databases....(i.e leads and ncic?

  • At 10 May, 2008 22:13 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, you will becomes leads certified by the state.

And I hope you don't think you're starting out at "60 stacks." People who've been there 10 years are making that.

    Good Luck.

oh i know i wont. im already with the city.

"60 stacks" heck looking at the overtime report (wether it's forced OT or not)that's not hard to make over there.

I was a long reader of the other 911 blog switched to this one after the last one was shut down and I'm also a employee of the city. Because I kind of know what some of you guys go through I can sympathize with you all. But I must say the tone of the post that you guys put on these blogs are so negative, it's pathetic and childish

So what whoever this person is that will be joining you soon will not be making 60k per year. I'm sure he/she knows that, whatever her salary was it will be a payraise for her.

My point is just chill with the smart and sharp comments it only makes the department look bad.

  • At 13 May, 2008 00:13 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

    Woah, take it easy!!

YES, with O.T. you CAN make over 60K,..... over 70K, over 80K, etc. (I'm sure you get the point) I was just making a general statement about STARTING salaries. There was no negativity there at all. I even said Good Luck. Geesh, NOT everyone who posts on here is negative!

But I guess if you read all the nasty stuff, and then get to someone's comments where there's no ill intention at all, I guess your mind can be swayed into thinking that the next person's comments must be rude too. After all, you can't always tell if there's harshness or sarcasm in the written word.
