Say it isn't so
According to the Chicago Sun Times, 97 expect to be laid off at the OEMC. While everyone can speculate it will not be dispatchers or calltakers, article does state, "it is not known yet whether calltakers or dispatchers will be among those." Hmmmm

Do not worry kids, it will be supervisors and janitors!

I vote they get rid of the traffic people. aren't they part time? I mean, get rid of 184 of them and that should equal 97 full time positions. Right?

If they lay off dispatchers or call takers that would be wrong. The dispatchers and call takers are the lifeline for officers. I am a dispatcher as well and can't imagine someone saying there are too many dispatchers where I work. Of course I do not work for Chicago though. Are the dispatchers union?

Yes we are union and I find it very difficult to believe that they will lay off call takers or dispatchers..they cannot staff the place properly with what we currently have..
let's make some suggestions..the new supervisors make at least double what a fairly new call taker makes..so get rid of one of them and that saves a call taker..
Don't forget the TMA's are technically under the OEMC Umbrella too...and they are NOT union..so they had for damn sure better be laying off those morons first...

16:18 - maybe janitors, not supervisors, they are union now. now the watch managers, they are on the firing line having no union to stand up for them.
18:25 - dispatchers and call takers are all union. they should be safe. it is all the contractor positions that will go first.

all the contractors will have to go . . . the only reason they are here is to line the pockets of JA

is there a worse watch in the city than days in 001 , unbelievable dogs. never come up clear. always looking to assist on bs jobs, but never there at end of day. no shame among them

What is the fascination with janitors? The only janitors at 1411 work for contractors and probably make 1/3 what floor personnel make, and many probably work twice as hard.

Just an FYI, union members can get laid off. Sorry to say that the city only recognizes cops and firefighters as public safety and won't lay them off. But just because the supervisors have a union, doesn't mean they won't get the axe. They are not career service employees so they still can go at any time, even with a union. Call takers and dispatchers are probably safe, but who knows with Daley. He doesn't follow the rules ever!

get your facts straight, supervisors are career service.

Um, why would they fire people who just got promoted? Why bother having promoted them in the first place?

As far as call takers and dispatchers being categorized as public safety. You guys got it all wrong. You guys should be categorized as "public hazards" I recently called 911 for a suspicious person in the walking through the alley in which this person was looking through gangways as truly not from the neighborhood. The call taker who took my call was very rude and unprofessional, he seemed very agitated that he was on a call. I gave him all the information he requested and he just hung up the phone. To make a long story short, Police never arrived, and my neighbors garage 2 doors down was burglarized that evening. Two things, you guys should be in the pool of lay offs as well as the Police who most likely took the call and 19P is soon as he or she received it.

What's up with JA, he's been even more so in a bitchy mood lately. I don't think he's happy working for the ED.

Just an FYI....
TMAs, part-time and full-time, are unionized. If fact they are covered by the same contract as the rest of us.
At 18 May, 2009 22:35 , Anonymous said...
You are incorrect
TMA's are not unionized. They are part time at will employees without benefits. The CROSSING GUARDS are in the same union as us. The TMA's and Crossing Guards are not the same thing.

18 May, 2009 22:35 Sorry to be the one to tell you, but you have been misinformed. Ask any union steward they will tell you. TMAs, full and part-time, are all covered by our contract. Crossing Guards, Animal Control, Aviation, Revenue Dept., Detention Aides, etc... All part of our contract.

The TMAs are unionized under AFSCME and may be included in the Clerks contract. They are OEMC employees however and are in our budget!

Hey know it all. TMA's both full, part time and supervisors are in the union. SEIU matter of factly. When we had the march in front of city hall TMA's were there. We are in the public safety union local 73.
At 21 May, 2009 00:12 , Anonymous said...
No it's the 311 operators who are represented by afscme.

That bloated piece of crap JA makes 150K a year. Get rid of him, and we could save 2 1/2 dispatchers. Ray Charles could run this place if JA wasn't around to stir up shit.

get rid of the crossing guards, most of the ones i see just wait till the light changes, or they're no car coming. Teach kids how to cross the streets like we learned. Plus where i work they are always calling off, i guess those 4 hrs a day is too much to work.

I'm a Crossing Guard and Yes I do wait until the light turns red. I also wait until all the cars and trucks are stopped to cross the children. Who taught you how to cross the street? Amazing you haven't been hit by a car yet crossing on a green light and or when there are cars coming. Come to my corner and watch me cross my 140+children. The cars and trucks don't stop at the red light (Cta buses and 3-4 cars going through the red lights every time it changes) They are also driving down the street at 45-50 mph everday. Tell me how children can learn to cross themselves with that? We as Crossing Guaards do not get the respect we deserve. Some of us are darn good Crossing Guards. As for others, they know who they are.
