It's good to have the police back, although the police really need you guys out on the street, but we appreciate you guys. But what's up with the lack of overtime? Is it due to the media deciding it was our turn to be attacked and picked apart based on the nonsense they THINK they know? Once again, the media embellishes the truth and turns against the workers who bust their butt for this city. 3rd watch was in the red the entire day yesterday, probably because they didn't hire enough people. A certain Supervisor on 2nd watch is trying to make midnights people work extensions of their watch that start at 8am, when their shift ends at 6am. Huh? Does that make sense? All to try and save a buck? Is it somewhere in our union contract that reads if your tour of duty ends at 6am and there is a 2 hour gap in between (initiated by management) and you are to report back at 8am, that we are supposed to be paid for those 2 hours anyways?? I thought there was and anyone who has any confirmation of this could really help out the midnights people who are geting screwed with this garbage. Also, for midnights shift, you can not get a Saturday night off even if you were attending your own wake, which is why the medicals are so high on that watch. If each watch doesn't hire enough people, our next step is going to be revising the SOP's for 911 calls, we will now be allowed to say "Chicago Emergency 911, please hold..."

uhh, I'm sorry but WHY is it good to have the police back?

no offense to any who actually intend to work, BUT for the last 2 days, the ones I have seen wandering around the OEMC, who are supposed to have headsets on, plugged in, and being "re-trained" (for lack of a better word,) and learning about all the computer commands, and new procedures, .... well, let's just say that MOST of them, have been walking around talking to people, OR dont even have the headset on, OR are actually, I-kid-you-not SLEEPING!!!!!! WTF !
I have been at OEMC for many many years and have only recognized 2 PO's that have come back. I heard that some of these PO's used to work in the OLD ROOM at 11th/ State , and have NO CLUE how things work on the computer (and not using cards).
So when they get called to be my partner for the day, and have no f'n clue what they're doing,..... who's gonna suffer? This is unreal.
Can someone explain WHY they're back again? Because I havent heard any reasonable explanantion yet!

Haven't those POs been getting D2 pay all along, even though they have been detailed OUT of 276 for how ever many years...? I guess someone decided that they should do the job that they are being paid for. If anyone even remotely thinks that the ops floor overtime issue is now solved because these 15 POs are back in the building, I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you.

IS THE UNION COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS??
WE HAVE NOT BEEN UNDER THE POLICE DEPT
RULE SINCE THEY TURNED US INTO THE CIVILIAN
UNIT OEMC. HOW CAN CPD DETAIL OFFICERS TO A CIVILIAN UNIT?

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

look closer. cpd is not trying to help us. it is a game. cpd hopes they fail retraining. then they can take the d2 pay from them. but ct and md will not fail them. we are stuck with them until the geniuses at cpd think of their next move.

I wonder if a certain upper management male will start acting more professional now and stop coming on the floor every day to flirt with 2-3 certain 3rd watch female employees? Now that his wife is back that is...

DIPLOMACY: the ability to correct a person's misunderstanding without insult or embarrassment,,, to tactfully explain why a persons expectations will not be met,,, the ability to understand what's important to a person.
Sound familiar? That comes from your training manuel,,, forgot that didn't you.
Let's see if we can use a little diplomacy here. Or maybe not!!!
276 does not now and never did belong to OEMC. It is a detail unit out of the CPD 1st Deputy's ofc. We were detailed to OEMC because it was understaff. It still is.
We were ORDERED back to OEMC by the Police Department because OEMC is understaffed.
WE were given NO explanation. WE were given NO options. WE were given orders. That is the way it works in the police department.
As for the D2 comment. A federal arbitrator decided that we could not be penalized because the City decided to civilianize the communications center. Each of us, with 20 plus years, continue to do our jobs,,, with or without D2,, WE are police officers. And truthfully our pay, like yours, is no ones business but ours.
We are far from perfect. We never claimed to be perfect. We returned from other assignments hoping to make the best of the time we had at OEMC, be that a few months or a few years. It was NOT our decision.
Our expectation was to be professionally trained and treated. How's that working so far?
    Already we've heard comments about
dispatchers refusing to train the PO's! PLEASE refuse to train us!!!
I don't care about your Avon, fundraisers or the dozen magazines you're reading. Than again I don't care about your 3 inch hoop earings, flipflops or glow in the dark finger nails.
What I do care about is one of the first things they teach you in training.... Officer safety must be the paramount concern to all personnel at OEMC.
Those of you who know me, know that I'm not one to "pull my punches." Those of you who don't know me should know that I will pick my battles, openly voice my opinion and defend my friends. Don't continue to trash someone after I've informed you they are a personal friend of mine. On the street or in the room, those I hold dear to my heart, I will stand for. Don't be dense and keep yapping.
As for CPD taking over,,, ha ha ha, NOT!! Hasn't happened by now, and I thought it would,, so probably never will. We simply don't have the personnel. AND if CPD did, you'd still have a job cuz they can't pull that many people off the street. DUH!!!
When I walk out of the building, except for a handful of co-workers, I am done with OEMC. I have a job to do. And I have a life to live. IF you can do the job better,,, well good for you. IF you don't like the way I'm doing it, tell the boss. IF you don't like us being in your building and maybe taking your "spot", call the Mayor. If you have a question,, ask us. Don't make something up and start rumors. Just ask.
AS for the rest of you,,,, I've missed you all so much. I've heard from many over the years and believe me it got me through a lot. It's been wonderful reconnecting with you,,, looking forward to whatever time we have together.

First of all there are some OEMC employees that are truely glad to see that we are back. Thank You we appreciate the welcome and we are glad to work with all of you once again. This message is not to them but to the disgruntled dispatchers??? who feel thatin some way we are THREATENING THEIR JOBS. Some of you dont have a clue. All of The POLICE didn't leave. We didn't volunteer or want to come back. We were notified by phone to report to OEMC the next day or else. Most of us were in districts where we wanted to be til retirement. All of us were not detailed out of unit 276. Some officers had bid to the district or unit we were in. We were uprooted from our jobs and lives in one day to come back to 276. We were not rehired as D2, thats what was awarded to us thru arbitration. D2 was given to us because the City came up with an EINSTIEN move to hire civilians as dispatchers. That was apprximately 15 yrs ago. If you don't recognize us maybe you really havent been at OEMC that long. When we were replaced we were uprooted in the same way as now. We didn't volunteer or ask to leave. Yes WE ARE BACK, WE ARE STAYING, like it or not. Maybe the city is ready for some professionalism. How can YOU be professional wearing high heels, flip flops, hoop earrings hot pink, yellow, or orange nails??? Your supervisors should worry more about uniform infractions and how well you do your job, than what size bag you are carrying. (Hide your bags we have visitors) How about be in uniform. Talk about sleeping. Is that what OVERTIME is getting paid to SLEEP at the console. How about everyone that leaves 10 min early and comes back 10 min late for every lunch, (thats AN EXTRA 20 MInutes per) scheduled break, and unauthorized breaks. We were never told the real reason why we were brought back either. We were never told the real reason why you were hired either. 7 minutes to dispatch a 10-1 is unheard of, that is an eternity for the Officer that needs help. Could be we were brought back because we are DISPATCHERS computer codes and knowing how to type does not mean you can dispatch. YOU are missing the whole point COMMUNICATING on the radio with the POLICE who put their lives on the line every minute while on duty. One of the 1st things taught is officer safety remember. We are all at OEMC for them the POLICEMEN out there who are serving and protecting us, our families and our homes.

I don't know where you are getting your information ..but it's not entirely correct...the entire OEMC is not a detail unit out of CPD that just happens to be staffed by civilians..maybe it was that way before..but it was removed from the police department years ago and made a seperate entity. It was my understanding that you were returned here because at a budget meeting the city finally caught up and realized that your salaries were coming out of OEMC's budget. Also...stop acting like we should be grateful to be here you are acting like WE dont have any right to be here or something...it is not OUR fault that the decided to get rid of sworn personnel at the OEMC..most large cities do not have officers working in communications..mainly because they need those officers on the street..same as here..and not every civilian dispatcher is a screw up who doesn't care about their job or who dresses inappropriately...saying that assumes that we are all the same..the same way you don't want to be all lumped in together..

Is this the same AnitaB who faked a back injury and went on the medical so she could move to Wisconsin and still collect another year's salary before retiring? I'm sorry your house burned down. I'm even more sorry that you didn't have insurance but faking a back ache to move to WI is ridiculous. Hope you're feeling better.
Sincerely R.S. (no not Ron Simmons)
