The never ending cycle

Round and round we go, when it will stop, noboby knows. 1st watch calls off. 3rd watch gets mandated. 1st watch calls off. 3rd watch gets mandated. 3rd watch gets warned. 3rd watch calls off. 2nd watch gets mandated. 2nd watch calls off. 1st watch gets mandated. Who really gets it "stuck" to them, management or our coworkers?

umm..when did 1st watch get mandated? and when was the last time 2nd watch got mandated?
Furthermore, everyone has called in for a party or something other than being sick..but when 1st watch does it in big numbers and then the next day they are laughing about how many people they had to hold..that becomes ridiculous

i think the last time 1st watch got mandated to stay OT at 0600 hrs was ........... hmmm, cant seem to recall that ever happening! If in fact it has happened, it certainly pales in comparison to how many times 3rd and 2nd watch gets mandated.

1st watch, mandated? Breaks and lunches cancelled, yes, but held over? Not very often.

Last time 2nd watch was mandated was Father's Day, I think. That was June 15th. 3rd watch gets slammed almost every Friday and Saturday night in the summer. And last week, on a Tuesday!

Off topic but I'm surprised no one is talking about this. We aren't affected by the no pay furlo days right now..only non union employees..but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I'm just curious though..who is paying for the Mayor's F'ing trip to China?

I, like everyone else, signed an agreement when hired that stated I was willing to work any watch and overtime. If you weren't or couldn't work the overtime, why did you agree to it when hired????
Stop your whinning, suck it up, and when you have the seniority to bid off 3rd Watch, do so. Just for the record, manadatory overtime is not new. When I was on 3rd Watch, which was a few years back, almost every Friday and Saturday night from June through August, you were mandated to work. It was all by reverse seniority, so some days we were held 4 hours on both Friday and Saturday. Nobody cared if you were stuck, because it came with being new(er). Once you had some time under your belt, mandatory overtime was greatly reduced. Your seniority meant something. If it wasn't for this rotation nonsense, maybe you wouldn't have to stay either.

why did you post your question 2 days in a row?

The person who posted RIGHT BEFORE YOU seems like they already answered the question!!

yeah well when i was hired they said you would be mandated for emergencies and 1st watch going to a party is not an emergency. it sucks to be held over because you have to make last minute arrangements for those of us who have people watching our kids. being held over every night for some bull is just a pain in the butt. i feel bad for pco 1's they get it pretty bad every weekend.

The answer to my question was delayed in getting posted which prompted me asking again. Thanks for your concern

It was just a simple question. All you had to say was "no, that rumor is not true". End of story.

Why do you guys cut those wagon guys in 025 so much slack? I hear you bang 2572, and you usually have to call them numerous times before they answer. Come on now, red line them! The only jobs wagons can't really do is chase cars. Everything else is fair game.

Maybe you dispatchers are just star chasers. And most wagon men are just pigs too, eh? Do ya'll roll around in the back of the truck?

So when are they gonna make speaking the english language mandatory for dispatchers? Come on now, hire no more ebonic speakers with family clout. Some of you might forget about talking like a radio D.J.

    for 22aug08 1705

Why does everything have to be racial? Ebonics, family clout?! What the fuck are you talking about? What family has run Chicago for generations. Hmmm, Irish, Catholic, South Side dweller.. Who could it possibly be? And speaking of family clout; how many Mt Greenwood, Beverly, Bridgeport folks followed generation of generation into the family business-police or fire? PLEASE!!! Now I have problems with people who don't enunciate or pronounce properly but all racial make ups do that. We, in America, have become very casual in our use of the English language. So its not a racial thing, its society as a whole. I am sure you use the King's English properly 24/7.

From what I've heard on the radio zones it can be hard to understand the ghetto accent and way of speaking some dispatchers use.

Oh grow up. Read the G.O. on radio protocol first before you start beefing.

I'm NOT 2572 - but be grateful the wagon (though 72 hasn't had a wagon in months) now takes jobs. You obviously are a 2 year wonder & weren't around when the wagon didn't get jobs. They did transports, DOA removals & drunk runs to the Mission.
