Lets Talk Chi Town 911

Welcome 2009!

Get ready for another fun filled year at the OEMC. Anyone want to share words spoken at the open town hall meetings? If I could just leave all with one thought....this year was bad, really bad, on all aspects. We all have a job, one which when you really think about it, isn't all that bad. Sure at times conditions can be better. Let us all take a moment to stop and thank the man above for what we all have, and that is a place to come to for money making, friend making and securing our futures. Happy New Year my friend!

How come they can't disconnect these old cell phones? Ever notice how many are used for bogus calls? Probably got some folks sitting back laughing as they watch the cops all running around looking for that "Man with a gun" call. Why can't the phone companies cut them off?

because federal law says that any cell phone with or without a service provider must have access to emergency services. therefore, old cell phones, as long as they have a charged battery can dial 9-1-1. the only way to have a cell totaly disconnected from the system is to have the police write paper on the crank calls recieved and then contact the provider to get the phone killed.

Federal law says this? So if I don't pay my land line phone (house phone) they can't cut my service too? If you don't pay your bill the phone should be cut off.

Federal law says you can still reach emergency services, not make phone calls. The mutts aren't cranking you at home only at work.

But with this crank calling, they are using up cars which could be at REAL jobs, not nonsense. Fire can refuse bogus calls, the economy says we should too. (And no, when my land line service is canceled, the phone don't work.)

it's 911 service for cell phones only. even if they don't pay a bill or can't call cuz service ended. they use them for people in shelters, battered women and things like that. which makes sense, they should be able to reach help when needed. but when someone keeps using the same phone over and over and over and they are all pranks there should be a way to turn the darn thing off.

    Impoverished seniors, too.

Disconnected land line phones CAN dial 911. Haven't you ever tried to do a callback to a land line number and got the recording "has been disconnected" and wondererd how can they call us if it is disconnected? Uncle Sam allows this! We will NEVER EVER get this to end.

And , if you do not believe this, call the phone company.

    just some interesting info:
monday night in january, i was taking 911 calls.... got about 40 cell phone hangups/pranks. etc from disconnected cellphones. multiply this by...let's say about 30 available calltakers during an 8 hr shift, and that's about 1200 cell phone hangups/pranks/ BS calls, etc. Multiply that by all 3 watches, and let's say there's an average of about 3600 Bullshit calls from those disconnected cell phones. And this was on a Monday, it's even higher on weekends, and in the warmer months.
I understand about people in battered women's shelters, etc needing access to 911 in an emergency, but the amount of Legitimate calls we get from those same cell phones, is probably less than 1 %.

im sure your right, but if those 1 percent get the help they need from using a bad cell phone then its probably worth the effort. besides without all these calls we wouldn't have to fully staff 911 and some of us might be out of a job.

be careful what you ask for if they all get put back on the floor it will knock a lot of people out of their days and am power slots look at where they are on the seniority list then we will have to listen to all of the ones that are bumped cry about having to work other shifts the crying never stops

So who cares about bogus calls? Just go, do them, and have some laughs. That way when a real call does come out, everybody's too busy on nonsense. Dukey really this time got stabbed, sorry we'll get there when we can.....

  • At 09 January, 2009 15:11 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

That assumes that the bogus calls are only tying up the officers in Dukey's neighborhood.

There are bogus calls from all sorts of mentals on the north side, Dukey's children in the ghetto, unsupervised children in middle class neighborhoods, and so on and so on.

Police already do a damn good job wasting their own time not doing police work (e.g., hanging out at the 7-11s in 022) without dispatchers sending them to do more not-police-work.

These ghetto kids are just mindless savages, nothing more. Let's get several buses and take them to the airport, send them to Somilia to live with the other savages.

If you are going to threaten to send a group of people to another part of the world at least be an educated racist and spell the country's name correctly, it is SOMALIA you moron.

  • At 10 January, 2009 11:02 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It don't matter how you spell it, these ghetto savages couldn't even find it on a map. And who really cares about the countries in Africa? Its just one big wasteland.

  • At 14 January, 2009 04:03 , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why Somalia, there's plenty of savages they can room with in the southwest corner of the city.

    As posted in Parade Magazine....

    Dear Malia and Sasha,

I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.

I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren't rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.

I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you'll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other.

Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country—but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free—that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility.
That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something.

She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better—and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.

I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you've had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much—although you do have that obligation. But because you have an obligation to yourself. Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential.

These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure.

I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.

    Love, Dad

Good grief! Does Obama EVER do anything that does not involve publicity for himself?? Why publish this in Parade magazine for all eyes to see if it was such a personal, heartfelt letter to his children? The more I read about him the sicker I get. Why is this being made public? Shouldn't it be a private letter between a dad and his girls? It's all PR. So sad to use his little girls. Obama originally said he wanted to keep his girls OUT of the spotlight. It's all about him. I didn't vote for the man, but he is our president and here to stay for the next four years. I don't agree that this letter should have been published for the whole world to see. If it was truly a letter to his daughters, it should have been for them and them only.

and what does any of this have to do with being a call taker or dispatcher??? Leave politics and religion off of here...there are plenty other places to speak about those things.

--the only thing you are giving other peoples daughters is massive debt--

Good grief. If you haven't noticed, its monkey in chief Dubya who just more-than-doubled the U.S. deficit in 8 years.

We are going on 11 trillion dollars in public debt, plus about 53-55 trillion in unfunded mandates like social security, medicaid and medicare etc.

How in the world do idiots like you plan on laying this on his lap? Have you been spending the last 8 years figuring out how to blame the monkey's mistakes on the next democratic president?

For shame, if you are capable of feeeling shame whatsoever.
